Keukenhof is one of the world's largest flower gardens, situated in Lisse, the Netherlands, attracting 1.4 million domestic and international visitors over seven weeks. Beyond that (and before that) it is a historic castle and estate, built in 1641. To step into a new era, we provided both the garden and the castle with a new identity that felt fresh and modern, without estranging its target audience.

The castle's history is a special one: the Keukenhof was founded in the middle ages as a hunting ground for the neighbouring Castle Teylingen, final home of Jacoba van Beieren. In 1641, the Keukenhof Castle was built as an estate for Adriaan Maartenzoon Block, commander of the Dutch VOC. After him, various Dutch nobility called the castle home, until the estate, after having been confiscated by the Germans during WWII, was opened to a world wide audience as the very first edition of Keukenhof as we know it.

The colour palettes of the two identities are rooted in the physical world of Keukenhof. For the garden, the pinks and reds of the tulip fields dictate the palette — vibrant, celebratory, instantly recognisable.
For the castle, the tones shift to the deep greens and browns of the centuries-old forests surrounding the estate. Together, they form a visual translation of the brand proposition "makes you wonder," setting the tone for two brands that are different in character, but unmistakably one.

“With our newly designed visual identity, we now have a style that does justice to everything Keukenhof stands for: a beautiful estate with a rich history and a flower exhibition that brings people from all over the world together. We are ready for the next decade, with an identity that honors our roots but also shows that we continue to grow and innovate.”
